What is Pilates?

Pilates is a holistic strategy for health created by Joseph H. Pilates. Much of his strategy includes a method of exercise called Contrology. These series of exercises include mat work and specialized equipment utilizing a series of pulleys and springs to challenge and assist the body towards healthy movement and fitness. The overall goal is Joseph Pilates’ definition of fitness: “Physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.”
